Beyond Silence Privacy Statement
Beyond Silence App, is designed to be a “mental health coach in your pocket” for healthcare workers. The app provides a variety of resources, customized for healthcare workers, that are designed to promote early intervention and support for the mental health of healthcare workers as well as promote psychological health and safety in the workplace. The app is owned and operated by Stepped Care Solutions (“SCS”, “we”, “us”, or “our”).
This privacy statement describes how your information is collected, used and disclosed when using the app.
Accountability for Personal Information
SCS has implemented a privacy program for the protection of personal information that includes policies and procedures to address the following: limiting collection, use and disclosure of personal information to the minimum necessary amount; limiting access to personal information to employees who require access for their role; data breach response and mitigation; data retention and secure destruction of personal information; and a process for responding to privacy-related complaints and inquiries. SCS has appointed a Privacy Officer as the person responsible for oversight of our privacy program. All SCS employees are responsible for compliance with our privacy policies and procedures and are required to protect personal information throughout its lifecycle. Employees undergo privacy training and may be subject to disciplinary action for non-compliance with privacy policies and procedures.
Information we collect
Beyond Silence is designed to maintain your anonymity to the extent possible minimizing the amount of information that we process. We collect the following information when you use the app:
- An identifier assigned by the app
- Notification token to support push notifications to your device (optional)
- Device manufacturer and model
- App vendor and device-specific unique identifier (IdentifierforVendor for OS, and Android_ID for Android)
- Behavioural activity within the app
- Aggregate and de-identified data from the wellness log
- Personal opinions through anonymous feedback surveys
We may also ask you to provide us with the following information, which is optional:
- Gender (Man, Woman, Non-binary, Prefer to self-describe, Prefer not to answer)
- Age range (within 10 years)
- Years of service (within 5 years)
- Sector (Correctional Services, Emergency Communications, Fire Services, Paramedic Services, EMS, Police, Other).
We do not collect your name or email address. Your phone number is required if you connect to peer support by phone. Your number is masked using a third party provider (Twilio). The peer support is provided with an option to reveal your number to disclose to emergency services, but this is only done if there is concern about imminent risk to the safety of yourself or others.
How we use your information
We use your information to:
- Provide the services through the app that you request;
- Detect and address any technical issues and or other issues with the app; and
- Improve and maintain the app by developing new features and functionality.
We also use and share certain information to evaluate how the app is used, consisting only of non-identifiable statistical information about app usage. Any information shared with a third-party researcher for these purposes cannot be used to identify you.
Storage and Retention of Information
Your information is stored on a data centre hosted by Amazon Web Services in the central region (Montreal) in Canada with physical, administrative and technical safeguards in place. Text messages exchanged with the peer supporters will be deleted every 30 days and cannot be retrieved on either your personal device or the server.
Disclosure of Information
Your personal information may be disclosed in following circumstances:
- if required to respond to an urgent and eminent threat to the health or safety of your or anyone else;
- to law enforcement or other third parties pursuant to valid legal process such as a subpoena, litigation or court order or where otherwise required by law;
- in the event of a reorganization, merger, or sale.
Your rights to access and delete your information
Most of the personal information that you provide when using the app can be accessed through the app. Any other personal information that we may have can be requested by contacting scsprivacyoffice@steppedcaresolutions.com.
You can stop all collection of your personal information by uninstalling the App. To delete your account, select ‘Request to Delete My Data’ found in the app under ‘Settings’.
